What to compare before signing
- The effective rate, not the nominal one — only the effective rate includes fees and is comparable.
- The arrangement fee, and any early-repayment charge.
- Whether a mortgage, a co-signer or an insurance policy is required.
- Whether the line is earmarked — earmarked rates are often lower but need an installer's quote.
