For business

Bakeries

The biggest load is at night — and that should be said before a system is offered.

Partial matchTypical size: 10–60 kWp

What your load looks like

Ovens run in the small hours, before sunrise. There is daytime load (display chillers, air conditioning, the shop) but it is smaller than the night peak.

What that means for the system

A partial match. Solar covers the daytime portion; the night peak stays on the grid. An oversized system here exports surplus at the lower rate and lengthens payback.

Sizing

Sized to daytime load, not total consumption. If some ovens run on gas, the arithmetic shifts again and needs looking at separately.

Why business is different

  • Commercial tariffs often bill peak demand — solar cuts that too, not just consumption.
  • Daytime load means high self-consumption, and self-consumption is the only part credited at the full price.
  • Industrial roofs are large, flat and unshaded, so the cost per kW is lower than on a house.
  • The investment is capitalised and depreciated, which changes the real after-tax cost.
