For business

Battery and backup systems

When an outage costs more than the electricity, a battery is a different calculation.

Good matchTypical size: 10–100 kWp

What your load looks like

For plants where stopping a process means scrap, spoiled stock or a line restart, the value of a battery is not in kilowatt-hours but in the downtime avoided.

What that means for the system

The economics are not the solar payback period but the cost of a single interruption. Compare it against a diesel generator that sits idle and still needs servicing.

Sizing

Capacity follows the critical load and the time you need to ride through, not the size of the solar array.

Why business is different

  • Commercial tariffs often bill peak demand — solar cuts that too, not just consumption.
  • Daytime load means high self-consumption, and self-consumption is the only part credited at the full price.
  • Industrial roofs are large, flat and unshaded, so the cost per kW is lower than on a house.
  • The investment is capitalised and depreciated, which changes the real after-tax cost.
