For business

Hotels and apartments

Occupancy and sunshine peak at the same time of year.

Good matchTypical size: 15–100 kWp

What your load looks like

Air conditioning, the pool and the kitchen push demand up exactly in season and during the day. Out of season demand falls, but so does production, so the ratio holds.

What that means for the system

A good match with high summer self-consumption. Domestic hot water is often cheaper to solve with surplus electricity than with more panels.

Sizing

Size to the summer peak, not the annual average — a system sized to the average gives away the most valuable part of production.

Why business is different

  • Commercial tariffs often bill peak demand — solar cuts that too, not just consumption.
  • Daytime load means high self-consumption, and self-consumption is the only part credited at the full price.
  • Industrial roofs are large, flat and unshaded, so the cost per kW is lower than on a house.
  • The investment is capitalised and depreciated, which changes the real after-tax cost.
