For business

Dairies and farms

Milk cooling runs all day; milking happens twice.

Good matchTypical size: 15–120 kWp

What your load looks like

The base load from cooling tanks is constant, with peaks morning and evening. The daytime part matches well; the two peaks less so.

What that means for the system

Solid self-consumption on top of a steady base load. A battery — or moving washing and cooling into daylight hours — raises the share without more panels.

Sizing

Sized to cooling capacity and milking equipment. Watch the connection capacity, which on farms constrains more often than the roof does.

Why business is different

  • Commercial tariffs often bill peak demand — solar cuts that too, not just consumption.
  • Daytime load means high self-consumption, and self-consumption is the only part credited at the full price.
  • Industrial roofs are large, flat and unshaded, so the cost per kW is lower than on a house.
  • The investment is capitalised and depreciated, which changes the real after-tax cost.
