For business

Sawmills and timber

A single day shift is one of the best load profiles solar can have.

Good matchTypical size: 30–250 kWp

What your load looks like

Motor load during a shift is steady and high. On a single daytime shift, practically all production is consumed on site.

What that means for the system

High self-consumption and a lower billed peak. Dust on the panels is a real problem in this sector and belongs in the maintenance budget.

Sizing

Sized to installed motor rating and the number of shifts. A second or third shift lowers the self-consumption share and changes the sums.

Why business is different

  • Commercial tariffs often bill peak demand — solar cuts that too, not just consumption.
  • Daytime load means high self-consumption, and self-consumption is the only part credited at the full price.
  • Industrial roofs are large, flat and unshaded, so the cost per kW is lower than on a house.
  • The investment is capitalised and depreciated, which changes the real after-tax cost.
